McLaren manager Zak Brown says they will not make a drive decision yet, they will take a decision on Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne in the summer
McLaren has been fighting Alonso and Vandoorne since 2017, while the contracts for both drivers are ending at the end of this year.
Both Alonso and Vandoorne have an annual contract extension option, and if the parties decide to use it, both names will remain on the British team next year.
Although Vandoorne is expected to remain at the bottom of the list for at least another year, Alonso is expected to retire at the end of the season.
Alonso will start the full-season race at IndyCar at the end of the season, and if he does not win this year, he will rejoin the Le Mans 24 Hours race.
But McLaren has said that Zak Brown has not yet made a decision and added that he will decide which drivers will compete in the summer months.
"I think we're in the same situation as the rest of us, and the season is still quite early," Brown said on questions about Alonso's future.
"Of course we are talking to our own drivers, probably everyone in the pit area will be spoken to the pilot at a certain level."
"Now that we are back in Europe, and usually in the summer when we start talking to Fernando, things are starting to take shape in real terms."
"We decided to wait until the summer months, like last year, and I think Fernando will tell us what he wants to do in the near future." said.
