Hamilton: Driving the 2018 car is harder than driving the 2017 car

Lewis Hamilton admits that driving a 2018 Mercedes car is harder than driving a 2017 car.

While the Mercedes seemed to have a better pace in Melbourne just this year, the Ferrari generally looked better.

In contrast, Lewis Hamilton won the championship title with victory in the Azerbaijani GP, while Mercedes and Ferrari are very close to each other in the team championship.

Hamilton thinks Ferrari is using the tires very well, he thinks Mercedes lost most of it.

"It's probably the most challenging race I've ever remembered and fighting."

"The wind made the race totally challenging, like it was racing on a wet track, and you know how difficult these conditions are.

"It is clear that we need to make improvements to the car, and if we can achieve it, that is, if we can uncover it, then you will see races like Melbourne."

"The car needs excellent performance and reliability, I know I have the speed, and I know the car has the speed, but we have not been able to perfect these two equations in order to create a perfect synergy yet."

"Certainly we have to develop in many areas, and I am definitely inclined to work on it."

"We have a lot of work to do, we keep going, we've been lucky in the race, we've had problems all weekend and it's hard to find the potential of the car.

"If you look at the race, I constantly get mixed up with the tires, and I will have to work harder to reiterate the performance I've shown this weekend."

"The biggest problem is the tires, I do not think their vehicles are better than ours, they only use tires better than us."

Hamilton said it was harder to drive W09 than the 2017 vehicle.

"We need to refine it a bit, we have to make it easier to drive, it's not as easy as last year, we'll continue to work on it."

"We have a lot of work to do, we're backtracked but we ended up in front, but it happened because so many different conditions came together, some were at the pole, Sebastian was 0.2 seconds ahead, the pure pace better now than we are."

"Sebastian managed and even did the race, I think the race tempo is a bit better than us, but as I said, we are very close and I do not think our car is a terrible car."
