Alonso was very close to an agreement with Red Bull in 2009

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said in 2009 that Fernando Alonso was very close to the deal, but the contract was not signed.

In 2005 and 2006, the Spanish pilot reached the championship with the Renault team and moved to McLaren in 2007 and returned to Renault in 2008.

At the time, Alonso was said to be unhappy with Renault's performance, and Red Bull's performance was not very good either.

As a result, Alonso continued to stay in Renault for 2009 and then passed Ferrari the following season. Red Bull agreed with Sebastian Vettel.

"We were very close to the deal with Alonso, and I went to see the manager in late 2008 and offered a two-year contract covering 2009 and 2010," Horner said.

"Fernando wanted only a one-year deal, but Red Bull would have either a two-year deal or no deal, based on his position, and we said we would not accept it.

"What's strange about this was that Flavio was included in the deal, at the time he was trying to buy Fernando into his own Renault, and as a result, he directed Flavio for 10 years."

Horner also agrees that they have held various meetings with Alonso outside of 2008.

"In the middle of 2009, is it possible to participate in the middle of the season?" because I thought it might be the champion with the vehicle we had. "

"A few years later, we had a meeting in the back of Spa airport in 2011 or 2012."

"The most serious interview we made was the first."
